About Us

the Jagiellonian University

The Jagiellonian University was founded on 12 May 1364 by the Polish king Casimir the Great and is one of the oldest university in the Eastern and Central Europe. The University comprises 16 Faculties, 4 thousand academic staff and almost 40 thousand students. The Jagiellonian University is one of the best Polish scientific institutions, cooperaing with the prestigious academic centres from all over the world. The most important large-scale projects run by the Jagiellonian University include the Jagiellonian Centre for Experimental Therapeutics, Małopolska Centre of Biotechnology, OMICRON, and Synchrotron Radiation Centre 'Solaris'. In 2018, the Jagiellonian University was the one higher education institution in Reuter’s Top 100: Europe’s Most Innovative Universities ranking.

the Faculty of Law and Administration

The Faculty of Law and Administration is the oldest unit of the Jagiellonian University. When the University was established, 8 out of 11 chairs were dedicated for legal sciences. At the beginning only courses in Canon Law and Roman Law were available for students. Today, the Faculty is recognised as the best law faculty in Poland and one of the finest in Eastern and Central Europe.
